Why You Should Never Skip Sunscreen - Even in the Monsoon

When the monsoon sets in and skies turn grey, sunscreen often slips out of our routine. But contrary to popular belief, sun damage doesn’t disappear with the clouds. In fact, your skin may still be facing daily exposure to UV rays, even during heavy rains.

UV Rays Pass Through Clouds

Scientifically, up to 80% of UV rays can penetrate cloud cover. That means your skin is still exposed to UVA rays(which cause tanning and aging) and UVB rays (which lead to sunburn). So even if you can’t see the sun, it’s still reaching your skin.

Humidity & Rainwater Make Skin More Vulnerable

The monsoon brings high humidity and exposure to rainwater, both of which can disturb your skin’s natural barrier. A weak skin barrier makes your skin more sensitive to the sun and prone to issues like dullness, tanning, and pigmentation.

Pair this with the fact that many people stop moisturising in humid weather and your skin is left under-protected and dehydrated.
